Having to plan a staff Christmas party is never easy, especially when you are on a budget but don’t want to settle for anything but a memorable and special event. This year I was in charge of planning the Christmas lunch for a group of 12. With our offices down the street from Gastown, I thought there would be many to choose from. For most restaurants you were looking at $32/head which after booze, tip, taxes you were in it for closer to $50. I was very excited to find Lily Mae’s who was willing to work within our budget and still provide a meal that felt special.
The owners Jeff and Armand are first time restaurateurs and have really got a great place. It is welcoming, quaint, intimate and not at all pretentious. When you are there you feel like you are in someone’s home and you can relax. We, being the perfect size group, got to sit in the upstairs loft, which was decorated beautifully for the Christmas holidays, all to ourselves. At one big table the 12 of us sat comfortably without feeling cramped and still had space to get up without requiring everyone to move. If you have a large group I highly recommend reserving this spot.
The service was great and the food delicious. I worked with Jeff on a menu that suited the guests (had to have some gluten free options) and we pre-ordered, which wasn’t a requirement but I knew it would make their lives easier. The plates came out quickly, the food was piping hot and all the dishes left the table licked clean. Mission Office Christmas Lunch was a success!
I look forward to returning for dinner and trying their ever changing menu. Best of luck to you Jeff and Armand keep up the good work!
